From the rules:
Quote:Tagged players are eligible to be traded.
In the event that a Transition player is traded, the player in question is no longer subject to the bidding process. He receives a standard one year contract from the new team at no cost and his tag is removed.
This makes no sense to me. The point of the transition tag is that you can retain a player on the cheap ONLY if the player is passed up on by the other 17 teams.
If the transition tag magically turns into a normal one year contract upon trading, it defeats the purpose and opens up all kinds of exploits (for example, tagging a player, trading him, then trading for him back). It makes more sense to do it much like the way the NFL does it: the transition tag does not follow the player to his new team. The new team must either sign him to a new contract or tag him. The team that tagged him initially is free to use the tag on another player.
Alternatively, the transition tag can follow the player to his new team and the player should still be subjected to the bidding process.
