Restructure or Re-sign?

For our new owners who have not experienced an offseason under this point system, let me explain what the difference is between a restructure or a re-signing.

If you have a player with 2014 being the final season of his contract, you have 4 options:

#1 You can restructure him right now before the commissioner presses the "start new season" button which will happen shortly after the Super Bowl. This restructure will cost 4 points and add 2 years on to his current deal. So, all restructures done today will extend a players contract thru 2016. (14-15-16)

#2 You can wait till we start the new season and offer that same player a new contract. That re-signing will cost 6 points and give him a brand new 3 year deal till 2017 (15-16-17)

#3 You can wait till we start the new season and use one of your 2 tags on a player which gives him a one year deal. The Franchise Tag prevents any team from bidding on him. The Transition tag does expose this player to possible bids at a certain point in free agency.

#4 You can refuse all contracts and allow this player to become a UFA.
